THE DIFFERENCES IN SPEECH RECOGNITION SOFTWARE
Wondering what type of speech recognition software best fits your purposes? What is considered entry level and what is considered professional software? How does it all work? This blog post briefly explains the speech recognition options that work with various Philips speech-to-text products and solutions.
Are you a student, journalist or someone who occasionally needs to record notes that need to be transferred into a written document. Are you tired of typing? The Philips Digital VoiceTracer (DVT) with speech recognition software is the device to get started.
Entry-level speech recognition
The Philips Digital VoiceTracer Speech Recognition Software (DVT2805) works exclusively with the Philips Digital VoiceTracer audio recorder line-up. It comes bundled with the DVT2810 & the new DVT1115, or can be purchased separately as an add-on with all other Philips Digital VoiceTracer models. The software is powered by Nuance Dragon speech recognition and automatically converts your recordings into a text document. Simply connect your DVT via USB to your PC and upload your audio recordings into the software. The speech recognition process creates a note document and you can then transfer the transcribed text into a Word document or other program in order to edit and format.
Note that this type of entry level backend (that means the software does the work in the background) speech recognition might not achieve the highest speech recognition accuracy. There are many factors that influence how well a machine can read what has been said, e.g. how far away the voice is you’re recording or any background noise. And keep in mind, speech recognition only works well when there’s one single speaker in an audio recording.
Do you dictate and create documents on a regular basis? Do you deal with confidential information or send your recordings to an assistant to be transcribed? Professional software is your solution.
Professional speech recognition
There are many professional options for speech recognition, but with remote workplaces and fast-changing requirements, most people who depend on frequent and accurate documentation are looking for easy, flexible, on-demand speech-to-text solutions.
Philips SpeechLive is a subscription-based, cloud dictation and transcription solution, allowing users to create written documents from their recordings both from their desks and on-the-go. Recordings can be done on your smartphone via an app or any professional dictation device. The recordings are then securely sent from the app or uploaded from the recorder into SpeechLive and sent to the transcription option of your choice.
SpeechLive still offers the “traditional way” of having documents typed up – with the only convenient difference being that you can easily work from a browser on any PC and don’t need any software installed. However, you can choose several other options to create your documents, e.g. when you do not have an assistant and/or typing just isn’t an option. Simply add on-demand speech recognition minutes and add recordings to the speech recognition queue to receive all your recordings as written documents just minutes later. SpeechLive can even transfer your voice into text right in front of you on your screen.
But there’s more!
Do you need a correctly formatted document or a meeting transcribed where multiple people have been recorded at the same time? SpeechLive also has an on-demand transcription service. Simply send off your recording and trained transcriptionists do the typing for you within 24 hours.
SpeechLive is best for professional use, as it allows for author and transcriptionist roles, ensures encryption of voice files for maximum security, and integrates with other workflow apps via Zapier. The software covers many use cases – no matter how big or small – and you can unsubscribe any time.
